Kansas Earthquakes

When the ground isn't so sound

It used to be simple, Kansas had tornadoes and California had earthquakes and it all made sense. After all, California was that piece of land wedged against the North American continental plate - shifting plate tectonics would keep that region geologically…interesting. Kansas, smack dab in the middle of the continent, was expected to stay geologically stable and boring. Thanks to Oklahoma’s enthusiasm for fracking that has all changed.

I’ve been checking EarthquakeTrack since feeling the first one and there really doesn’t seem to be a lull in Oklahoma activity. The first earthquake was met with complete disbelief, “wait, did that just happen?”

I was woke up from the most recent (and strongly felt) one - and promptly went back to sleep. It’s amazing how fast earthquakes have gone from novelty to nuisance.
